Welbeck Defence College, from Leicestershire, UK, again used the facilities at Red Sea Waterworld on their recent visit to Taba Heights.  The college combines the academic side of life with sporting events, social, cultural and leadership activities, to help prepare students for their lives as Officers in the Armed Forces, within the Civil Service or in civilian employment.

The group of Sixth Formers combined a relaxing stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel with a challenging diving schedule.  In total, 17 qualified divers gained their Advanced Open Water certifications and 52 students became Open Water divers during the week – Welbeck’s largest group of candidates so far.

After certification, many of the candidates took time out to enjoy some pleasure diving at local sites including Marsa El Muqabila and Ras Amira, finally celebrating with a beach barbeque on the last evening.  The college intends to return in 2012 with an even larger group.  Well done to the student divers and the PADI instructors who certified them – and of course, thanks to the staff from the Defence College, without whom, it wouldn’t have been possible.
